287g programs are a collusion between law enforcement and ‪#‎ICE‬/DHS. This program promotes racial profiling, police abuse and foment a lack of transparency.

Today we spoke out against 287g as a community demanding Wake County Sheriff Harrison end the program in Wake Co., NC. North Carolina has the most 287g contracts of any state, five (5) in total.

As health advocates we cannot continue to ignore how these institutionalized forms of oppression and stigma surrounding the immigrant identity continue to interfere with how individuals, families and communities access care. For people living with HIV/AIDS, these programs impact how documented and undocumented immigrants not only access care, but how they engage with health care services and adhere to treatment.

The most important point is that Sheriff's and law enforcement can end the contracts at any time.
