State of the Union Address

While we celebrate President Obama's mention of ending HIV during his State of the Union Address and leadership stating that:

"Right now, we are on track to end the scourge of HIV/AIDS, and we have the capacity to accomplish the same thing with malaria – something I’ll be pushing this Congress to fund this year."

In the same breath, we continue to condemn the raids and the deportations of women and children fleeing extreme violence from Central American countries. These actions create fear in our communities and time and time again, we have seen these anti-immigrant acts of aggression affect how immigrants access healthcare. Our priority should be the safety of families and children escaping violence, not criminalizing refugees.
